Rudh' An Dunain
This cairn is been left open after the excavations. It looks like the
removed cairn material
has been deposited just before the entrance of the cairn. So when being inside
the chamber or passage, the horizon can not been seen any more.
Standing on the cairn one still has a view of the horizon.
The following viewing lines are determined from within the chamber towards the
outside (using magn-true north5):
- purple line
The most northern azimuth is: 108o 35' +/- 45'
- green line
The most southern azimuth is: 128o 40' +/- 45'
- white line
altitude: 0o 0' +/- 5' (measured from around 4 m above ground level entrance)
- yellow line
altitude: 5o 0' +/- 5' (measured from around 4 m above ground level entrance)
According to Henshall A.S., 1972, the azimuth of the green line is: 126o
(accuracy unknown).
A special thanks goes towards Michael Behringer and his three assistants, for measuring the
azimuth of the green and purple lines!
