-
Jan. 12th, 2000
Reappearance of the sun light happened in the Maeshowe chamber today!!!I
have made an animated picture of this
.It could have been today the second day of reappearance (due to the long
sun light at the reappearance [4 min]), yesterday was perhaps not visible
due to clouds.
-
Jan. 1, 2000
We wish you a happy 2000!!! The
computer and video recorder within Maeshowe has no y2k bug.
-

-

Shortest day (15 sec. shorter than Dec. 21, 1999). No sun at sunset,

couple (just 3 hours married) renewed their vows
in Maeshowe, which was broadcasted on the Internet.
-
Dec. 21, 1999
Not yet the shortest day, but the sun
came in Maeshowe!!! Great to experience this after many days of rain
and snow. I have a video that shows the reappearing
sun from some 300 m west of the Watch Stone. So that also worked out;-),
just before my return from Orkney to Ireland!

A table with the information on the sun
shining inside Maeshowe has been updated.
An
article has been published in Sunday Times (it contains a nice picture
of the sun setting inside Maeshowe). The biggest error they made was providing
the wrong URL!!! It is great that Julie Gibson and Euan MacKie are also
quoted.
-
Dec. 11th, 1998
The interview has been broadcasted over Radio Orkney.
-
Dec. 10th, 1998
Received sponsorship from Erlend Tait for the transportation (part
of rental car). Interviews were given to Radio Orkney (Dec. 11th, 1998),
BBC Radio Scotland (???) and Sunday Times (Dec. 20th, 1998). Furthermore,
initial talks with Orkney Tourist Board on a possible millennium project.
An article was published in The Orcadian. Two major errors in
this article are a) it is taking about a 'small aperture above the entrance'
which is not true for present day Maeshowe and b) it states that the broadcasts
will be until Dec. 22, which is wrong, it should say Jan. 31, 1999.
Victor Reijs has gone back to The Netherlands. He is really satisfied
with the results!!! The reappearing of the sun at Maeshowe, as predicted,
has been witnessed and video taped (the same phenomena will not only take
place at Maeshowe, but also at more places around Maeshowe), talks with
Orkney Tourist Board on next years activities and again a very good cooperation
with lots of people on Orkney. Could not been better!

-

of Victor Reijs.

An article has been placed in Planet

plus camera has been left in Maeshowe to record sunsets until end of January.
Furthermore: Thank you to all
the people that helped creating this project!!!
-
December 22, 1997
This seemed to be a really good day! But just at the moment the sun
would touch the back wall, the sun was behind the clouds. A real pity for
my last day at Orkney:-(. A television set, provided by Orkney Television
Enterprise , was put out at Maeshowe to show the people (that were
not able to get in the monument) the sunset.
-
December 21, 1997. The shortest day!!!
The sun came in around 14:40 for some 10 minutes
.But due to a technical problem (and we now hope to have solved
it), we did not get that much on the Internet. We have it on tape though.
A television set, provided by Orkney Television Enterprise, was
put out at Maeshowe to show the people (that were not able to get in the

Interview by BCC Scotland and Grampian television and
Radio Scotland.
The sun came in two times: around 14:30
BST (for a few seconds) and 14:45 GMT (for some 3 minutes), so only a few
pictures were really showing the sun on the net. We really need less clouds;-)
-
December 14, 1997
The sun popped in some times, so sometimes there was only one picture
with the sun and then another black one. The
weather at Orkney Mainland is really unpredictable.
-
